Carl began his career in hospitality working in local Hawke’s Bay winery restaurants before conducting wine tours which is where his love of wine began. He spent time in Australia working with major Australian restaurant groups in both venue manager and Sommelier roles (Merivale, Rockpool Dining Group, Colonial Leisure Group, MADE Establishment & Lucas Group). When returning during 2020 his passion for the wine industry and connecting with people led him to launch Cellar Ahuriri. Carl is currently completing his WSET Diploma.

Rob MacCulloch started his career in wine in 1995 and has worked or studied in pretty much every part of the global wine industry since then. From production winemaking to wine selling to the complex bits in-between that make wine get from A to B, there’s not much that Rob hasn’t done in a career that’s encompassed working in the UK, New Zealand, Australia, Germany, South Africa and the USA. And then there’s the qualifications – five separate wine qualifications that include Viticulture & Oenology from New Zealand’s Lincoln University and one of only 400-odd Master of Wine qualifications in the world too.

Angela is a Philadelphia area native. First exposed to wine as an exchange student in Spain. From there, wine was a constant companion through a dizzying array of experiences including as a Human Rights lawyer, chiefly in Mexico, Ethiopia and Honduras. Discovering slightly better wine during her legal career and truly falling in love with all things vinous, Angela decided to leave the legal world behind to relocate to Napa and work in the trenches of the wine industry. Angela was persuaded to drop the sunny Napa climate and move to the decidedly cooler environs of Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand by her winemaker husband (Rob). In 2021 Angela was awarded the Golden Vines Diversity Scholarship which is taking her to the great wine regions of the world to help in her studies for the Master of Wine designation. Read more.
